The National Gardening Association (NGA) invites schools to apply for the Hooked on Hydroponics Awards, sponsored by The Grow Store in conjunction with the Progressive Gardening Trade Association. This program provides hydroponics equipment for use in educational projects that enrich the entire curriculum. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in water containing dissolved nutrients.

To be eligible, schools must plan to garden with at least 15 students in grades 1-12 during the academic year. Six awards are available for elementary schools, eight for middle schools, and 10 for high schools.

This competition is designed to interest students in space, science, and technology. The award, named in honor of the celebrated Apollo astronaut, will be presented for the first time in October to the high school team that develops the most creative new space concept to benefit the emerging personal spaceflight industry.

The first-place team will receive a $5,000 grant, followed by $2,500 for second place and $1,500 for third.

Science Teachers of Missouri invite you to attend their annual professional development conference on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27, 2008 in Jefferson City, MO. This conference event includes professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers of science as well as opportunities to connect with colleagues from across the state at the beautiful Capital Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.
